Se utiliza fundamentalmente  como aislante t\u00e9rmico o como protecci\u00f3n contra el fuego, y tambi\u00e9n en falsos techos de  lugares muy h\u00famedos o con necesidad de mantener buenas condiciones de asepsia.<\/p>\n<p>El material se obtiene tras fusionar polvo v\u00edtreo, normalmente proveniente del reciclaje de vidrio blanco. Mediante procesos termoqu\u00edmicos, el polvo de vidrio se esponja, creando burbujas en vac\u00edo parcial,\u00a0 por lo que se obtiene un material de muy baja conductividad t\u00e9rmica (en torno a 0,048 W\/m\u00b0C).<sup><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>La pasta resultante tras el proceso de cocido se corta en piezas  comerciales cuyas dimensiones, dependiendo de su uso, oscilan entre los  30-50cm de anchura por 50-100cm de longitud, con grosores de pieza de  1,3 a 4cm.<\/p>\n<p>Las placas de vidrio celular son r\u00edgidas y muy ligeras: la densidad usual para placas de aislamiento t\u00e9rmico es de 157-170 kg\/m<sup>3<\/sup>, mientras que el utilizado como falso techo, m\u00e1s resistente, presenta una densidad de 450 kg\/m<sup>3<\/sup>.Debido a que las burbujas o c\u00e9lulas que encierra el material no est\u00e1n  comunicadas entre s\u00ed, el material es impermeable al agua y al vapor de  agua, y es un muy buen aislante t\u00e9rmico. Tambi\u00e9n es incombustible (A1) y ofrece gran resistencia al fuego. Otra caracter\u00edstica del vidrio  celular es que, al ser un material compuesto exclusivamente por vidrio,  es as\u00e9ptico e imputrescible;<sup> <\/sup>motivo por el cual se utiliza en falsos techos de laboratorios, hospitales o centros de salud.<\/p>\n<p>El vidrio celular com\u00fan es de color negro, aunque se puede colorear, comercializ\u00e1ndose en una limitada gama de colores.<\/p>\n<p>Las placas de vidrio celular, como todos los compuestos de vidrio, necesitan prestar atenci\u00f3n a la presencia de \u00e1lcalis, usualmente presentes en cementos y algunos tipos de yeso,<sup> <\/sup> por lo que su compatibilidad con algunos materiales (especialmente morteros) debe estudiarse con detenimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Se emplean para evitar puentes t\u00e9rmicos o como aislamiento de suelos, paredes o techos, donde gracias a su resistencia al paso de vapor de agua no necesitan c\u00e1mara de aire. Se mueven por motivos higrom\u00e9tricos, asi que hay que preveerlo a la hora de disponer las juntas.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n se aprovechan sus caracter\u00edsticas para utilizarlo como falso techo en lugares muy h\u00famedos o en ambientes sanitarios, pues es un material  imputrescible y en el que no prosperan hongos ni bacterias.<\/p>\n<p>Es incompatible con los cementos (no se deben revestir con mortero de cemento), siendo aconsejable su uso en revestimientos de yeso, fundamentalmente en lugares de clima continental, con poca humedad absoluta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>El vidrio celular, llamado tambi\u00e9n en ocasiones vidrio expandido, es un material de construcci\u00f3n de aparici\u00f3n relativamente reciente, creado a partir de polvo de vidrio cocido.
