La raz\u00f3n es simple, y es que la principal caracter\u00edstica de este material es que tiene un acabado no poroso y por lo tanto se puede ubicar en zonas en las que la higiene es uno de los requisitos m\u00e1s importantes. Normalmente este material se usa en hospitales en las zonas de quir\u00f3fano o en lugares en los que la humedad es habitual como piscinas o balnearios. El recubrimiento no poroso garantiza que la humedad queda al margen y al contrario que en los materiales absorbentes porosos que pueden llegar a pudrirse y almacenar grandes cantidades de polvo, estos son totalmente lavables y no absorben ning\u00fan tipo de humedad gracias a la primera capa que los componen. Generalmente esta capa est\u00e1 hecha de un material tipo vinilo o similar, impermeable al agua, que a\u00edsla totalmente el n\u00facleo poroso flexible del exterior.
